Ginger Scallion Noodle, Fried Shrimp & Egg Bowl and Boiled Broccoli

Normally, I made only one dish for one meal but this time I made three different dishes for one meal! Ginger Scallion noodle and Fried Shrimp with Egg bowl (from Shrimp leftover from the night before) and boiled broccoli.

First, Ginger Scallion Noodle. This dish is from a restaurant called "Momofuku" in NY. I have not been there yet but I borrowed cookbook of Momofuku and many of the dishes looked really good. I would love to try this restaurant sometimes.

This is the Momofuku cook book. For me, some of the dishes seems a bit too complicated but I found some which are simple enough for me. This Ginger Scallion Noodle is one of them.

I was supposed to add some topping on the noodle such as pickled cucumber and sauteed cauliflower but I skipped them since I didn't have them at home :-)

I found this ginger scallion noodle recipe on the internet also so I link it here.

It has quite a lot of ginger (which I love) and has some sherry vinegar so it is quite refreshing noodle. ( I added more sherry vinegar than it was required)

This is the ginger scallion sauce I made.

And, Fried Shrimp with Egg bowl. This is a remake from the leftover fried shrimp from previous night. (Click here for the previous post) I just cooked some onion in soy sauce and sugar and sake then add egg in it and pour over the bowl of rice with the left over shrimp.

Then boiled broccoli. This is just boiled and salted. Nothing special but I like it. I can just eat this as a snack. I like leaving in them in the fridge and make it cold before I eat.

My husband also liked the ginger scallion noodle. I have to go to Momofuku sometimes and try the real one. But Momofuku is famous for its ramen noodle so I might eat ramen noodle if I go there. It is a Japanese name but the owner/chef is a Korean American chef named David Chang. He is quite famous and has many restaurants in NYC. I read that he lived in Japan for a while to learn how to make ramen noodle. I would love to try his ramen noodle!

Bellpepper & Sausage, recipe books I borrowed from library

I found sausages which were sleeping in my freezer so I woke them up and ate them with bell peppers and onion. When I was living in California, my roommate used to make this dish sometimes on Sundays. Every time I make this dish, I think about her. Now she is a mother of two beautiful girls. Time flies!

Normally, I make this dish on a frying pan but this time my husband grilled the sausage on the grill outside and I made the bell pepper and onion with a frying pan inside. The sausage taste better when you grill it, I think.

This is how I saute onion and bell pepper. I don't add anything else like salt or pepper. It is amazing how sweet it gets from natural vegetable taste. If you prefer, you can add salt or pepper or any other spices but I like it just like plain. I can taste the vegetables more this way.

The sausage was grilled and we had them with some rice on the side.

It was really good! I know sausage is not a healthiest thing to eat but sometimes I crave for it and I think it is OK in moderation. Just don't eat too much of it :-) This was just a regular Italian mild sausage which I purchased at a regular supermarket. It was such an easy and satisfying meal.

By the way, I borrowed some recipe books again from the library so I would like to introduce those books. These are the four recipe books I borrowed this time.

First one was a recommendation from my friend. This is a recipe book for different kind of vegetable dishes from all over the world. I would like to know more vegetable dishes so I think this is a great book to learn many vegetable dishes.

The next book is all about Latin cuisine and it is very colorful and cute book. The lady who published this recipe book has five restaurant in the U.S. Some of the dishes I saw in this book are perfect for summer!

The third book is an interesting recipe book. This author had a father from Cyprus and a mother from Finland. She collects family recipes from both sides and made a  book with some childhood memories. I felt lots of love for her family from this book. The photos are beautiful and I like the her short introduction (memories) about each dish. I just borrowed this without even reading inside too much but this recipe book is really good one. I like it a lot.

The last one is the one I've already introduce a few days ago when I made a savory tart. There are so many great tart recipes in here both savory and sweet. If you like tart, I am sure you would like this book!

I realized how much I love recipe books. I remember even when I was little, I liked reading picture books with some food in it. One book I liked about a crow who has a bakery. The other one was about two mice and in one episode they make this delicious looking huge pancake!

I love looking at all these beautiful food pictures so most important factor when I pick recipe books is if the book has lots of pictures in it or not. In Japan, most of the recipe books have pictures but here in the U.S., some of the recipe books don't have many pictures. I like having a visual image of what I am going to make.

Anyway, I love looking at recipe books in bed before I go sleep. It makes me happy to think about what I am going to make next :-) I think all of you who love cooking can understand me very well!

Asian Flavors of Jean-Georges Recipe Book

Today, I would like to introduce a recipe book which I recently bought.
I ordered this recipe book through Amazon as my birthday gift and it has arrived yesterday! I am so excited.

This is the book.
It is called "Asian Flavors of Jean-Georges".

One of my favorite restaurant in NY is called "Spice Market" and the owner of this restaurant is Mr. Jean-Georges Vongerichten. He is a very famous chef who owns many restaurants. (Here is the link to his website)

He has many different kind os restaurant and some of them are Asian Fusion. This recipe book has many of the dishes from those Asian Fusion restaurants which he own and of course recipes of some dishes from Spice Market.

I love food and also the atmosphere (interior design) of Spice Market and every time I have guest from overseas or somewhere from other states, I take them there. The cuisine is asian fusion. It is great asian food with some western twist. Their food is tasty and also elegant.

The interior of this restaurant is gorgeous. I like all the furniture It feel like somewhere in Asia but not exactly Asia. It is a mixture of East and West. The place is pretty big and there is the first flour and also the basement level. On the first floor, there is a big french door and in summer, they open them all so it feels very open and fresh. In the basement level, there are some semi-private rooms which has a sofa type of seat around the table. I love those semi-private rooms. If you are going with a group of people, I highly recommend these rooms. (Here is the link to Spice Market website, you can see some of the interior)

Everything I ate here so far was pretty good but two of my absolute favorite is "Ginger Fried Rice" and "Cod with Malaysian Chili Sauce". You can see the cod dish on the cover of the cook. I love cod and I love this green sauce around it. It is delicious. And the ginger fried rice is my absolute favorite. I have to order this dish ever time I go there. It is pretty intense with ginger and garlic but it is absolutely delicious!
There is a fried egg on top of the fried rice and around the egg yolk there is lots of fried ginger and garlic. The egg yolk is not cooked all the way through so you crush the egg yolk and mix them with the rice to eat. I loved this dish so much I always wanted to make this at home. This book has the recipe for this dish also so I will definitely try it.

This book has so many other dishes which looks gorgeous. It has over 175 recipes. Some of the dishes might be difficult to make because of the ingredients or method but I am excited to try some of the easy ones.

I was just so excited about this book. I had to tell you guys here. If you ever come to NY, I recommend this. restaurant. It is a great atmosphere and great food.
